Scientology Creating a Drug Free World
Scientologist™ take the issue of drugs very seriously.
With marijuana being the most widely abused drug of choice in Australia, ecstasy second and meth–amphetamine (known as Ice) ranking third per the latest United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime report released mid 2006, our nation is fast turning out a pill-popping generation that solves their problems with a chemical fix — be it illegal or prescription drugs. With over 78,781 drug abuse treatment episodes, millions of dollars are being spent, taxing our social services and hospital and medical programs, not to mention the costs through law enforcement, with 79,026 arrests related to drugs during 2003–2004.
Effective Drug Prevention Campaigns
This does not even count the destroyed lives of the family who have to go through the pain of having a loved one on drugs and also the cost to the individual user. For the last 15 years we have been very pro-active in educating youth and adults alike on the facts about drugs. We set up the charitable "Drug Free Ambassadors" whose volunteers go out and talk to youth one on one about drugs and get them to take a pledge to remain drug–free. And back that up with good education about drugs and what they do physically and mentally.
Real Drug Education
We recently produced hundreds of thousands of copies of drug education booklets, which give the straight facts about drugs — most of which the users simply doesn't know. We recently had a young user who had tried everything, break-down when reading through the booklets of ice and ecstacy, saying when he began using, he knew none of this and probably would not have touched it. We have even had police tell us that these booklets have taught them something new about drugs. It is a fact that education brings about the ability to correctly choose and giving our youth and society the correct information about the side effects and dangers of these drugs allows them to make their own, informed, decisions.
You can see online versions these bookets at www.drugsalvage.com.au and order new copies online or via email or mail.
