Anti Drug Group Rocks Big Day Out
March 10, 2007
Volunteer Scientologists get out on the streets during the Big Day Out to hand out the "Truth about drugs" information kits...
Keeping in mind the recent stories about over 60 percent of MDMA users also combining this with alcohol, the Drug Free Ambassadors group got to work to arm youth with the truth about this drug, which is anything but "Ecstasy".
With the Big Day Out, it was the likely drug of choice for a lot of people, so volunteers handed out thousands of booklets printed by Drug Free Ambassadors Australia, a secular non–profit organization headquartered in Sydney, which was established to meet the increasing demand for the "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" community drug prevention program, which members of Scientology churches and other volunteer organizations have been conducting for over 20 years around the world.
Even at the big festivals and rave parties, this action alone has saved lives and reduced drug overdoses, based on statistical data from authorities. Education plays a vital role in preventing drug abuse. How to talk to youth about drugs is often puzzling or appears impossible. This is why for over twenty years the Drug Free Ambassadors as part of the have conducted the largest worldwide community–based drug education campaign. Based on experience and success, the group has created a new Truth About Drugs Education Kit. The kit contains ten well–researched pocket–size individual booklets with factual information about the most abused drugs, including real–life stories and a study guide.
The ten booklets and a study guide, packaged in a compact box, make up the components of The Truth About Drugs Education Kit.
Production and distribution of the booklets and education kit are made possible through donations and sponsorships by private organizations — businesses, churches and civic organizations that care and want to do something about the economic and social consequences of drug use in their communities.
Governments have also provided funding to our affiliated organizations. By way of example, in New Zealand, a city council paid for the reprint of thousands of copies of one of the drug prevention booklets for distribution in their community. The Taiwanese Ministry of Education helped to finance the reprint of more than 100,000 copies of a booklet on ecstasy. The Ministry supports the program in several ways and children in hundreds of schools in the country have participated in drug education lectures as part of the "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" program. The result — ecstasy use dropped by 65 percent across all targeted age groups.
Effective drug education works. It saves millions of lives. It is our responsibility to ensure our children are empowered with all the facts so they can decide to lead a drug–free life. Start by getting The Truth About Drugs Education Kit into the hands of friends, family members, employees, teachers and students in your community, thereby saving lives.
