Volunteer Ministers Support Community Efforts to Tackle Illiteracy, Conflict and Drug and Alcohol Abuse

Scientology Volunteer Ministers, known for Disaster Response at the Asian Tsunami and 9/11 as well as world wide community programs, held a launch ceremony for "Communities Helping Communities" in the Smith St. Mall of Darwin on the 16th of November 2007. This starts an initiative to attack the illiteracy, drug and conflict problems prevalent in the Northern Territory.

The event began with the introduction of Richard Fejo of the Larrakia nation Governing Council who gave a traditional "Welcome to Country" greeting from the Larrakia people. To open the event there was special appearance by traditional dance troupe, "One Mob - Different Country. The dancers were then presented copies of "The Way To Happiness" book as a thank you for their performance.

Also attending the event was Speedy McGuiness who is on the board of the Chairman of the Indigenous Human rights Congress and Dorothy Fox an Aboriginal Darwin Aldermen.

The Program sponsored by the Scientology Volunteer Ministers aims to deal with the problems beneath various social issues, such as substance abuse and violence by providing community members with free courses in how to deal with community issues.

The community and literacy programs aim to educate adults and youth in social behaviours and to learn how to learn, is based on the work of American philosopher L. Ron Hubbard. Their purpose is to help people gain real understanding of the subject they are studying so they can apply it throughout their lives.
