Protest for Children's Rights Continues Outside World Psychiatric Association

Kate Ceberano felt so strongly about children's rights, she took to the streets about it on Wednesday. Joined by other parents, families, professionals and advocates, she marched from Batman Park at 12:30 p.m. to the Melbourne Exhibition Centre where she addressed supporters on the need for better information to be given parents about the dangers of psychiatric drugs.

On Tuesday, the multi-award winning singer opened an Exhibition, "Psychiatry: An Industry of Death." Wednesday she told WPA members and Australian psychiatrists direct: "Stop drugging our future generation."

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) said that World Psychiatric Association has a lot to answer for-labelling kids with mental disorders that cannot be confirmed by any blood, urine, chemical or other test. CCHR spokesperson, Shelley Wilkins, said that former president of the WPA, Dr. Norman Sartorious admitted that psychiatrists do not know what causes any mental disorder, while a former head of the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health, Rex Cowdry said psychiatrists also have absolutely no cures.

"Yet thousands of Australian children are being stigmatized with disorders that have no scientific or medical basis. They are subjected to drugs that are not some mild, benign cough mixture, but mind-altering, potentially addictive drugs that can drive them to acts of violence and suicide, and cause life-threatening diabetes, strokes or heart attacks," Wilkins said.
